European grapevine moth Lobesia botrana is one of the most important pests of grapevine. Larvae of this pest in second and third generation cause economic damage by feeding on grape berries. The present study was conducted to introduce and replace new insecticides and to expand the range of effective insecticides for controlling this pest. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with four replicates in Markazi and Fars provinces. The treatments consisted of two concentrations of matrine (1.2 and 1.5 mL L⁻¹), phosalone (1.5 mL L⁻¹), spinosad (0.15 mL L⁻¹), and control. The efficacy of the treatments was evaluated based on the ratio of infested grape clusters to the total number of clusters per vine. The side effects of the tested insecticides on Trichogramma brassicae and the green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea, were assessed under laboratory conditions using the standard methodology of the International Organization for Biological Control (IOBC). The results showed that seven days after spraying, the lowest percentage of cluster damage was recorded in the matrine treatment at 1.5 mL L⁻¹, which differed significantly from the other treatments. The percentage of cluster damage for the second and third generations in Markazi province was 0.11 and 7.95 percent, respectively, and in Fars province it was 14.7 and 8.70 percent, respectively. The assessment of the side effects of the evaluated insecticides on natural enemies indicated that matrine at a concentration of 1.2 mL L⁻¹ resulted in fewer negative impacts compared to the other insecticides. This insecticide was classified as slightly harmful to the egg, larval, and pupal stages of T. brassicae and moderately harmful to the adult stage. In addition, its effects on C. carnea were classified as slightly harmful. Overall, matrine at a concentration of 1.2 mL L⁻¹ can be recommended for the control of the European grapevine moth.
